Sometimes during warm-ups in Crossfit, we have to gymnastics type stuff like somersaults. I HATE it. I do not have a gymnastics type bone in my body. I hate it. I probably shouldn’t even like Crossfit since in incorporates lots of gymnastic type movements but the heavy lifting and high intensity keep me coming back.
Luckily, you don’t have to be able to do somersaults to give these fun little snacks a try. Somersault Snack Co. sent me the mother load of samples to try out their product. My usual go-to snack is usually nuts, fruit, larabar, or some string cheese but this nut-free snack provides a decent potential alternative. Somersault is all about seeds, sunflower seeds to be exact. Nuts get so much attention for their nutrition content that we forget there are other alternatives like seeds to give us some variety in life. Sunflower seeds are a good source of protein, fiber, and vitamin E.
I would usually say just eat the seeds and forgot about this processed snack. But this snack has a fairly short ingredient list, and boasts using non-GMO ingredients and sometimes you need a little something crunchy. Somersault snacks give you the crunch with way more nutrition than potato chips or crackers. There is a nice little comparison on their website to check out.
Somersaults snacks come in 5 flavors; Cinnamon Crunch, Pacific Sea Salt, Dutch Cocoa, Salty Pepper, and Santa Fe Salsa. By a long shot my favorite was the pacific sea salt. So much so, that it will make it’s way on my grocery list. It has a miniscule amount of sugar and still fairly low in sodium. Next in line is the salty pepper. The other flavors were not for me but not terrible either. I found the ingredient list on the santa fe salsa to be a bit overwhelming. Definitely the stand out compared to the fairly clean lists of the others. You definitely have to try them for yourself to figure out which ones you like.
Have you tried Somersault Snacks? What did you think of them? What is your go to snack when you want something crunchy?
