I’ve been meaning to do this post for months….and months. Where does the time go? I have no idea.
Anyway, I quit eating cereal a couple of years ago. It’s all loaded with sugar and stripped of any nutritional value. Any nutrients that cereal may have as been added back into it. Every once in a while I would eat a bowl of plain old Cheerios when I would get that craving for a bowl of cereal. It’s just so American; I can’t help myself. : ) While it’s low in sugar, it still has odd ingredients like modified corn starch and it’s pretty devoid of nutrients except for the ones added back in. Booooo.
Through the magic of the internet, I stumbled up on a great little company called Attune Foods and their amazing cereal Uncle Sam. Does it get more American? They make cereal the old fashioned way. They simply roll red winter wheat berries flat and toast them. Toss them with some flaxseed and you have yourself Uncle Sam cereal. An ingredient list doesn’t get much more simple than this:
Their method of making cereal retains all of the nutrients that is lost in your typical highly processed cereals. This cereal is naturally loaded with fiber, protein, healthy fat with virtually zero sugar.
When I get a craving for a good old fashioned bowl of cereal, I really feel good about eating a bowl of Uncle Sam. Attune Foods also make gluten free cereals and other products.
What is your favorite kind of healthy cereal?
Disclaimer: Attune foods sent me a sample of their cereal. There was no expectation that I do a review. I wrote this blog post because I really like their cereal and wanted to share with my awesome readers.
